Simplifying legal services for entrepreneurs

Neuron is the online home for an entrepreneur’s legal needs, backed by the team at Wilson Sonsini. My work included concept testing and designing a beta app for this new offering targeted at startup founders.

💯
Through concept testing, product strategy and interaction design I transformed a complex legal process into a streamlined digital experience.

My role

I worked closely with another designer and five developers, as well as two product owners at the law firm. I designed many features and UI elements, with a focus on navigation patterns, project management and visualizing complex legal and governance information.  I also led user test sessions of early concepts and the beta app.

The product experience

For the firm's clients, we created a simple dashboard and online forms to share information with their lawyers, ultimately saving time and money while incorporating a company.

The legal team had more complex needs: an efficient way to process documents, collaborate internally, access client details and manage tasks. And the system had be extensible, meeting the specific needs of the legal process of incorporation while also serving as a reusable template for future offerings.

Takeaways

When I think about this project, I'm most proud of the leadership and "soft skills" that I brought to the team. For example, I worked to improve our our weekly design reviews, transforming them from a high-stress environment to a collaborative experience with fresh ideas and clear action steps.

Notes from a design review and roadmap discussion that I facilitated

I also spent a lot of time advocating for more user testing and experimentation on a team that wanted to push ahead quickly. But I brought a flexible attitude, adapting best practices to the needs, timeline and temperament of key stakeholders.
